Heading into the 2025 spring season the Oklahoma Sooners look hopeful for some exciting Baseball and Softball seasons. The Sooner softball team in particular is coming off a 4-peat as the Division 1 National Champions and is heading into the 2025 season as the number 3 ranked team (nationally) pre-season. The baseball team is coming off a disappointing loss in the 2024 regionals and has unfortunately dropped out of the pre-season top 25, however with returning seniors and new younger talent the Sooners are hopeful to make a strong transition into the SEC and make a run at Omaha.
The sooner softball team is lead by Senior Sydney Sanders, Sophomore Ella Parker, and Senior pitcher Kiersten Deal. Some notable matchups for the softball team include the No. 1 Texas Longhorns, No. 2 Florida Gators, No 4. Oklahoma State Cowgirls, and the No. 5 Tennessee Volunteers. With the loss of Jayda Coleman, Tiare Jennings, Grace Lyons, and Kenzie Hansen the Oklahoma softball team has dropped out of the top spot in softball despite coming off 4 straight national championships. The softball team still holds a lot of talent from the past few years as well as newer recruits from the past 2 years that will look to continue the success that they have seen in the past 4 years. With the transition into the SEC, sooner softball will facing some tougher competition in the regular season so it will be interesting to see how the 2025 season pans out after all the recent success.
In the baseball world the Sooners will be looking to have a strong season as they transition into the SEC. Notable players for the Sooners include Jaxon Willits, Easton Carmichael, and Kyson Witherspoon. With the 7-1 loss to UConn in the regionals last year, the Sooners pitching staff showed a lack of depth as they went deeper into series. With returning All-American Easton Carmichael and the young offense the baseball looks to make a good run against some tough regular season competition. Important matchups for the Sooner ball team include Mississippi, LSU, Vanderbilt, OSU, and Texas among others could cause some trouble in the regular season but if the Sooners get the ball rolling they could be in a good position to make a playoff run down the stretch.
