Looking back at the opening few weeks for softball and the past week for baseball both teams look to be off to a pretty good start. As expected the Softball team started out strong boasting a 10-0 record so far and the baseball team is 3-0. While both teams are lossless the beginning of the season for both teams doesn’t tell much a story of how the team will look going forward. The best indicator for the baseball team will come this weekend in the Roundrock Classic where they will face 2 top 10 ranked ranked teams in OSU and Virginia so this will be a good weekend to watch the Mens Sooner baseball team. If there is any one area where I believe the Sooners will struggle it will be in the depth of their pitching staff. Going into these first few tournaments of the season will either showcase of expose some of the issues that the Baseball could potentially run into heading down the stretch but offensively the team looks productive and aggressive which is good to see early on.
As for the Softball team, not unexpectedly they are off to great start. Like the baseball team however it’s tough to tell how they will pan out because the competition is relatively weak this early on. There aren’t many weaknesses that stand out right now so how this season turns out will be determined by what they can do in the important games against the highly ranked opponents as they have so many being in the SEC now. If you’re looking to watch the Women’s Sooners they will be playing here in Norman this weekend, 2 games on Sat/Sun and 2 games on Monday. As I said before the competition is weak in these games but building confidence in this early season games is important to see continued success from the past 4 years.
