Many peers choose to go the performance route instead of the academic route which took me kind of as a surprise in a positive way that poetry is impactful to students. All of the performances felt like they had an impact on the performer and it further helped them connect to their audience. Many of the poetry picked were poems that I have never heard of which motivates me to explore more poetry or ask my family the poetry that they are impacted by. I also was not expected to feel emotions and connect with fellow students just through their performances. Some students took interest in simply reading common poetry but putting their own twist on it which made us (the audience) focus on the common poetry that we have heard over and over again. I choose to go the academic route which shows that poetry can be argued the same as any other form of literature. I wanted to pick impactful lines from immigrant women in the form of twitter posts to stick to the over theme of the class which is performance and modern poetry.
