The Sooners had a rough game last week in Waco — after getting upset by Baylor they came out ready to win against the Cyclones this week. Both teams scored on their opening drives, starting off an exciting matchup between two Big 12 powerhouses. Early in the fourth quarter, Oklahoma managed to get ahead by two touchdowns. Iowa state scored twice in the last 11 minutes, and nearly pushed the game to overtime.
With just two minutes left in the game, Iowa State had the ball and was quickly moving down the field towards the end zone. It was looking like the game was about to go to overtime, with the ball on OU’s 21-yard line. QB Brock Purdy threw an interception to Pat Fields to seal the win for the Sooners.
While the Sooners are still the favorites to win the conference, they have a lot of a lot of issues to work through. Freshman QB Caleb Williams appears to still be the starting QB, even though Rattler has seen his small share of snaps sporadically. Williams occasionally has trouble seeing the field; continuing to pass up open receivers in pivotal moments. The Sooners have gotten lucky enough in most of their games, giving them the 10-1 record they currently boast.
K Gabe Brkic missed two field goals last game against Baylor, and missed another today. In the last two games, he has missed 3 total consecutive field goal attempts. Before the Baylor game, Brkic had never missed two in a row in his entire career at OU. If Oklahoma hopes to win the Big 12, they need to sort out a lot of issues.
