The final rankings for the CFB Playoffs have come out, and the top four may be a bit surprising to some.
Each team in the top four had their fair share of issues this season. Georgia was widely predicted to go undefeated this season, until they lost to Alabama in the SEC Championship that sealed the top playoff spot for the Tide. Alabama worked to climb back up the rankings after a gut-wrenching loss to unranked (at the time of the loss) Texas A&M Aggies. Cincinnati went undefeated the whole season, even though many questioned their lack of competition over the season, and if they would be able to hold their own in the playoffs. Saban and Alabama have a tough crew to beat, but earlier in the season their singular loss showed that it wasn’t impossible. Michigan made a recent comeback in the top ranked teams, after beating Ohio State for the first time in Jim Harbaugh’s coaching career to seal their playoff spot.
Many of the bowl game schedules also came out today, which should feature some pretty entertaining matchups This year’s New Year’s Six will be quite the lineup.
#10 Michigan State vs #12 Pittsburgh
#2 Michigan vs #3 Georgia
#1 Alabama vs #4 Cincinnati
#5 Notre Dame vs #9 Oklahoma State
#6 Ohio State vs #11 Utah
#7 Baylor vs #8 Ole Miss
Alabama is obviously favored to win the whole thing, but the likelihood that Georgia defeats the Tide in the National Championship is pretty high. Georgia went undefeated the whole season before losing to Alabama in the SEC Championship. The Dawgs have quite the chip on their shoulder, and will come out ready to play. Alabama should beat Cincy, which would set up a great rematch for the Natty.
