What Lincoln Riley’s Departure Means For the Rest of OU:

By now, all of Norman is aware of the change at Head Coach for the well-decorated football team. After the loss to OSU, Lincoln RIley announced that he and four other members of OU’s coaching staff are moving to coach at USC. As predicted, OU fans everywhere were not happy about the move. The Sooners still have one more game on the schedule — a bowl game that has yet to be announced. Former coach Bob Stoops will step in for the remainder of the season, until someone is hired this off-season.

Rumors about Freshman QB Caleb Williams transferring have surfaced as well, seeing as he committed to OU primarily because of Riley and his system. Williams’ family believed he had the best chance in Oklahoma, but perhaps things have changed now that Lincoln Riley is out of the picture. If Williams was to transfer, it would be a huge hit for the Sooners. It would put Spencer Rattler back under center — unless he decides to go to the NFL — who really showed his true colors this season after getting benched for poor performance on the field.

Clearly everyone is a little ticked off at Riley for leaving. With good reason too. If Oklahoma is unable to find a coach who is better than their last, it could veer the more valued recruits from signing at OU. In turn, Oklahoma could begin to fall off. The move to the SEC provides more difficult competition, and if OU is unable to withstand the pressure then they could easily slip away into having a dull future.
