Just a day after Lincoln Riley announced his new position at USC, OU has been deeply affected. Four of the Sooners’ football coaches followed him, and many new recruits have revoked their commitment to Oklahoma following Riley’s leave.
Decommitted recruits include:
- 4-star ILB Kobie McKinzie
- 5-star WR Brandon Inniss
- 4-star DL Derrick Moore
- 4-star OL Demetrius Hunter
- 4-star RB Treyaun Webb
- 5-star QB Malachi Nelson
The recent losses for coaching staff and recruits don’t even account for the three transfers that have been announced so far. Theo Wease Jr, Jadon Haselwood, and Spencer Rattler. Rattler went from being the Heisman favorite to riding the bench behind freshman QB Caleb Williams. Rumors have surfaced about Williams transferring, but the former 5-star recruit hasn’t made a statement regarding his plans for next year.
Currently, Brent Vernables is the frontrunner for the OU HC job. The Sooners’ front office needs to get things figured out quickly and make a good hire, before they jeopardize the future of their program.
