It’s no secret that Derrick Henry is a monster in the NFL. For starters, he’s 6’3″ and 240 pounds. He leads the leauge in rushing yards by 260 yards, with 869 total. He’s scored 10 rushing touchdowns this season, twice as much as the no. 2 RBs on the list (T- J. Conner, E. Elliott and K. Hunt). He is first in rushing yards per game and in rushing first downs. Henry has proven he can do it all, he even threw a touchdown pass in today’s game versus the Kansas City Chiefs. But will his efforts be enough to win leauge MVP this season?

Typically, the MVP of the NFL has always been seen as a “quarterback’s award”. The last running back (or any other position, for that matter) to win the award was Adrian Peterson, in 2012. Peterson rushed for 2,097 yards and had 12 rushing touchdowns. Seeing as Henry is already at 10, and was only 70 yards shy of Peterson’s total last season, his chances of winning the award are looking to be pretty high. With the NFL’s new extra game, it’s highly likely that Henry will beat the all-time rushing season record (2,105 yards, set by Eric Dickerson). If he does, there’s no way the NFL will try and snub him of this well-deserved award.

Henry clearly has a chip on his shoulder, and he’s definitely playing like it. This season, NFL fans shouldn’t be surprised if the streak of QBs winning MVP comes to an end. Henry is playing some of the best football of his career, and he has consistently proved his value in the NFL over the years. This season, Derrick Henry is looking to break records and win awards he has deserved for years.
