Covid 19, created a worldwide panic for people across the globe. People were terrified because they didn’t know what was going to happen. Globally, people turned to the media for answers. Snapchat, news channels, Newspapers, Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok, among other forms of media, were our main sources of connection to the outside world because everyone went into isolation. Human to human contact was very limited. Media was crucial when it came to communication and resources, considering we were in the middle of a worldwide lock down.
When the pandemic hit, I relied heavily upon types of media such as Instagram and Snapchat to keep me up to date with my friends and the outside world. I have always been an avid Instagram and Snapchat user, but the pandemic influenced me to download the app TikTok, that now dominates a large majority of my time, as well as many other people’s. I used these forms of media as a distraction, by gaining high streaks on Snapchat and learning TikTok dances, but ultimately, I felt like it was the only way for me to stay connected, since my family was on lockdown mode.
Ultimately, media was crucial during the pandemic, considering it was everyone’s source of updates and information, pertaining to health guidelines, politics, mortality rates, and all other sorts of information. We’ve also learned to adapt in ways, such as mobile hearings and online classes, that allow us to continue on our lives, even if the weather or outside illnesses may prohibit. Therefore, I believe we can give a big thank you to Covid 19 for our Zoom classes during these most recent snow days!
