Staying Healthy & Happy

So, by now, most of us have already dealt with some kind of illness, maybe the flu or strep? Possibly even bronchitis or a simple cold? Either way, it’s always important that we try to keep our bodies as healthy and well rested as possible.

Work, school, social events, and studying can all play a major part, along with other factors, in how well we choose to either respect or neglect our bodies. No sleep, sloppy eating, not consuming enough calories for fuel, and not consuming the correct vitamins and minerals are all simple, bad habits that we can choose to change. Maybe try getting to sleep earlier or substituting a Chick-fil-a sandwich for a salad. Tiny steps like this can lead us all to healthier and happier lifestyles.

Speaking from experience, I have gotten sick many times since moving to Norman, with some of the worst diagnosis’s being severe bronchitis and mono. During finals week, I had bronchitis for three weeks straight, and of course, right in the middle of finals. When you stay out late and don’t take care of your body the proper way, it makes your immune system a lot more susceptible to diseases and illnesses. I’ve never been one to get enough rest or to be able to go to bed at a reasonable hour, which I believe is a huge reason why I am such an easy target for these illnesses.

To try to counteract my weak immune system, I’ve started drinking water and trying to go to bed at a reasonable hour, along with taking vitamin C supplements and eating more clean foods, rather than Chick-fil-a all the time. I thought it was helping improve my health and creating a stronger immune system for myself to fight off illnesses, but just this week, I went to Goddard and learned that I have mono.

So… if I ever learn how to actually properly take care of my body, you guys will be the first to know.
