This song breaks my heart and puts it back together like it never happened. I wont be talking so much about the literal song as much as how it makes me feel.
Lorde perfectly encompasses how it is to feel like you aren’t good enough for someone but they make you feel like you are, and I think that is just beautiful. To feel so loved that you pay no attention to your own insecurities. For someone to waltz into your life without warning and make it exceptionally better with close to zero effort. To feel utterly and incandescently happy around that one person because somehow, someway they just make every bad thing fade away. To wonder why your smile never seems to fade when they are near. To cherish them and love them to the fullest extent for as long as possible. That is what this song is.
It is truly remarkable how effortlessly Lorde is able to express this feeling of love and admiration. Some may even wonder who this “Big Star” was that she wrote the song about. Is it a person she knows or knew? Is it about her fans? Who is it? To me, “Big Star” is about the people I love. Rather, the person I love. I can’t think of a more relatable song that compares to how one would want to be loved.
