I have found 6 people from two different age groups to ask the question “would you approve the following law if Congress were considering it?” then a series of questions following.
The patterns that are shown in the responses are pretty consistent. Answers are mostly the same besides one person who chose the opposing. Most people said they would approve the law.
These patterns show that the majority would approve and do support the first amendment. Reasonings vary but mostly go on the same track of freedom of speech and press and how that shouldn’t be taken away from the people.
My interviewees judged the freedoms based off of what they knew. Most of them knew all of them and what they mean and just a few had extra questions about the freedoms. My subjects answers impressed me because I thought I might have had to explain more about the freedoms.
In the National report on attitudes towards the first amendment, surveys show that there has been an increase in support for the freedoms and first amendment. Also, boys and white students are more likely than girls and people of color to disagree with the first amendment, which doesn’t come as a surprise.
