I’d like to say that I’m into music. I love listening to music. Music surrounds my world. I even wrote this blog post listening to music.
Music is something I come back to time and time again to, in a way, “escape” the world. With the rise of Artificial Intelligence, the production of music has now become affected by AI.
After playing around with Microsoft Copilot, I found out a way to generate snip its of music, full of lyrics and a singer to sing these generated songs. This got me thinking about how much of the music I listen to is either completely generated with AI, or even partially generated with AI.
While browsing Spotify one day to turn on my playlist for a study session, I stumbled upon a generated playlist made by Spotify. After doing some research, I come to find out about Spotify’s new AI playlist feature. Below is an advisement for it:
The issue with this new generative AI playlist feature is that Spotify generates new songs and adds them on to a playlist. Although the feature itself isn’t as harmful as other AI generative features, what would happen if Spotify were to come up with a way for AI to construct music? With this constructed music, could other creators take the generated music and claim it as their own? Could they make profit out of this generated music? What would happen to the many rising artists as generative AI were to start becoming popular?
Although I do not know the answerers to the questions I ask, generative AI continues to overtake many industries, resulting in the downfall of not only the music industry but also many other industries.
