For the research assignment my two main topics covered AI and Education as well as AI and Art. However, I think I have decided on covering just AI and Education. This topic is important for me to cover as it is something that will have an effect on my future since I intend on becoming a high school langage arts teacher.
During my senior year of high school, AI became a big issue. In my English class, we had an essay assignment where students had to write about our democracy. This is a topic a lot of students are uninterested in or uneducated on so many of them did not want to write over it.
So what did they do? Well they did not educate themselves but insead they had AI write everything for them. My teacher caught on, noticing that only myself and a few others had not used AI, so he completely shut down the assignment. Not only did he do that, but he also made every other essay assignment pen and pencil based.
After this, we had weekly meetings in the library where our librarian taught us how AI works and how to properly utilize it instead of cheating.
I think this is a huge deal, and unfortunately is only just the start. This is something that will largely impact education and how students learn.
I think for this assignment I will be using my personal expirience as well as the articles that Prof. L shared with our class. One I read while in class was Rise of the AI Schoolteacher by Megan Erikson. I think these will be very helpful at getting my consern across to my readers. I do think I will find myself getting very frustrated and annoyed while writing though, this is a topic that I find myself mad about at times.
