Discover Oklahoma City
I began my research by diving into the historical background and importance of landmarks in Oklahoma City. The architectural language of each building was unique while the goal was to design a series of symbols that cohesively communicate my chosen regional landmarks. These symbols should be a non-verbal representation their unique history and architecture.
Personally, creating that consistent visual language among multiple architectural symbols was a tedious task. I found it easy to get caught up in the tiny details of it all. It took me quite some time to realize the intricate details I was emphasizing were not necessary for such a simple symbol system. I also struggled with proportions in the architectural designs.
The final series of symbols explored a variety of historic landmarks that I felt best represented Oklahoma City. The visual language showcased varied line weights to create cohesion across each symbol. The deliverables included 6 symbols (black/white), 3 posters, 4 street banners, and one additional application.
