The Great Gatsby. The character that the book was named after. Fitzgerald created the character with a purpose in mind. The looks of this character, the standing of this character. Then the part that I will be talking about, is the personality. The personality of this character has many different aspects. One of these is his determination. Even when he was young he talked about how he was going to be wealthy. There’s a quote by Gatsby’s dad, “He come out to see me two years ago and bought me the house I live in now. Of course we was broke up when he run off from home, but I see now there was a reason for it. He knew he had a big future in front of him. And ever since he made a success he was very generous with me.” This shows his determination and drive in life. For being so determined though you can see that he is also cowardly. This is shown when he gets to meet with Daisy again. She running a little late because of the storm and he immediately thinks of canceling the entire evening. He also he tries to avoid saying what he wants. Such as when talking to Nick,
“Oh, that’s all right,” he said carelessly. “I don’t want to put you to any trouble.”
“What day would suit you?”
“What day would suit you?” he corrected me quickly. “I don’t want to put you to any trouble, you see.”
Some people with those personality traits are people like some politicians. They are confident and pursue their goals without swaying. They aren’t always honest about their goals and what they actually want. Teachers are also a good example because they have a good perception of what their goals are and are determined to reach them. In some cases, they don’t fully reveal their goals so that the students will realize them themselves.
