March is here, and so is the MADNESS!

The most exhilarating time of the year is finally upon us, March Madness! There is nothing better than the rush of Cinderella stories, buzzer beaters, and utter despair from every shattered bracket. The Tennessee Volunteers are my choice this year. With an impressive season so far of 24–5 overall, and 11–5 in SEC play, their performance has made heads turn. Their recent jaw dropping victory against Alabama, when Tennessee senior Jahmai Mashack hit a buzzer-beating 3-pointer, marked one productive chapter in showing their resilience and potential to go all the way. Seven consecutive years of making the big dance will continue with 2025. With experience in the tourney, the Vols and coach Rick Barnes have recently gone the farthest since 2010, by reaching the Elite 8 just last year. With that being said, I think it is 100% this year that they finally break through and win it all. I could also be terribly wrong. Who’s your pick to cut down the nets? Will the top seeds hold strong, or are we in for another unforgettable upset? One thing’s for sure: March never disappoints. Let the madness begin!

  1. A follow-up question for you, Caleb, based on your last blog post, and my own impressions. I would say that the decline in college hoops is much greater than the decline in NBA hoops; but your choice for a March Madness post is very much “business as usual.”

Now, I too love March Madness (when I worked in Las Vegas and it coincided with spring break, let’s just say I watched a LOT of basketball)–but it does seem to me like the tournament is a diminished thing these days….anybody else out there with thoughts?
