This interaction is between two characters in Homestuck, a comic that is well-known for its length and its fanbase. The orange text belongs to Dirk Strider, a character within the comic that struggles with self-loathing and being forced to adjust to a post-apocalyptic world for all of his childhood. Due partially to the boredom of being isolated in this world, at the age of thirteen he created a robotic clone of himself that shared his mental makeup. The confrontation pictured above is an accumulation of this self-hatred; both have complicated feelings on the matter as Dirk does not want his creation to exist, but his creation wants to live. The relation between this interaction and doubling as a phenomenon is that in this case the double serves as an effective way to analyze both characters and the differences between them as well as their relationship- ultimately, Dirk does not kill his doppelgänger, and the audience is led to the conclusion that Dirk is not afraid to not exist due to his lack of a response and further context of the events and his characterization. The double is spiteful in some cases of Dirk- Dirk had created him, and yet within the comic was not really allowed much autonomy nor was he treated by most characters as anything more than a few lines of code.
