Gatsby Character Personas

Argument- Each character has a different persona (projected onto them from peers or they hide behind a persona, this is private and public selves as explained in an article by Leo Braudy)

Focus- Show in photos the different personas or contrast to the public personas and private personas

Double life- Gatsby hiding his past family life as James Gatz

Facade- A change in personality that is to look a certain way to others

Illusion v. Reality- Daisy seems charming and kinda but in reality she’s a bit shallow and lost/ unsure

Reinvention- Gatsby leaving his farm life behind to be this wealthy “oxford” man figure

Disillusion- Nick has an illusion of Gatsby and the lifestyle he lives but soon sees the lies, secrets and betrayal all throughout this world he’s entered.

Moral Ambiguity- Gatsby and Daisy make some bad choices but it’s because they think they have to for their image/ lifestyle.

Concise and clear argument- Each character in the great gatsby has personas and a true self they are hiding behind the scenes. This is seen throughout the novel (Gatsby dying bc of Daisy basically) (Myrtle dying) (Nick leaving because he sees through it all finally) that it destroys their lives/ perfect little world.
