Intro:
Unit 1 paper: How Has Wealth Affected the West Egg
This paper discusses greed in The Great Gatsby and how “The American Dream” was often a dream sold as obtainable to ordinary people. Money and greed corrupted morals and characters of TGG.
Unit 2 paper: Position Paper
This paper analyzes the different telling of the women in TGG by the original book or a sort of “sequel” book, Beautiful Little Fools. TGG is seen to not give the women as much voice as we readers deserved of them in order to fully understand and have an honest opinion of the novel. Whereas BLF gave the women voices as it was narrated by them. We could understand their struggles and their decisions they made which we may have judged them for in the original novel.
Unit 3 paper: Persona in The Great Gatsby
This paper is a chance for us to again understand the characters more. Analyzing the personas that each may have had in public and behind closed doors allows for a better and more in depth understanding of the book. Personas are even more common now and I believe that is something that needs to be remembered. So, as we reflect in this paper of TGG personas, it allows us as readers to consider our present-day personas.
My 21st Century Great Gatsby is overall analyzing and diving deeper into why characters do what they do. I also see so many similarities from that era to this era. The modernizing of our perspective of the novel evolved our understanding of the characters and perhaps ourselves.
