An Ad that is often brought to light amongst sports fans is the 2019 masterpiece, “100 years of the NFL”. During the leadup to Super Bowl, the NFL was celebrating its 100th season of football. So, what’s a better way to start super bowl advertising than a 2-minute commercial with a bunch of NFL legends, past, present, and future.
The commercial consists of classic football energy, big hits, smooth catches, and crisp movement. Throughout the ad, we move through the 100 years of the league. From Terry Bradshaw recreating the ‘immaculate reception’ with the late great Franco Harris, to Odell Beckham Jr. recreating possibly the greatest catch in NFL history that he had made 4 years earlier. These moments made fans around the world smile as it incorporated the past with the present. The ad also featured rookies at the time, Baker Mayfield and Saquan Barkley, who at the time were budding stars in the league.
This ad made fans recollect on whatever era they watched in. Newer fans loved seeing the rookies, elder fans loved to see the cameo from the ’72 perfect season Dolphins, and middle-aged fans loved to see guys like Ed Reed and Marshawn Lynch. This ad didn’t necessarily raise money or put new eyes on the game, but it made its loyal fans happy, and all in all put a smile on viewers faces.
