What is media literacy? In my opinion, media literacy is the ability to create media thoughtfully and socially aware. It is also used to decode media messages. It is important because it gets people to engage in a global media environment. It expands the concept of literacy. Today’s messages come in all different shapes and forms and literacy can’t really be defined by the ability to simply read and write. In my JMC 2033 class, the professor mentioned that our audience is reading at the 8th grade level. People take in all sorts of media from all sorts of different places, it is important to be able to understand and decipher it!
What is mass media? Mass media is a tool where the means of communication reaches a large number of people in a short amount of time. The digital wave had a lot to do with this. Some examples of mass media are podcasts, radios, television and magazines!
Affordances of technology. Affordances of technology is technology that comes from goal-oriented behavior. One example is the Google Kindle. It was designed simply to read books; it cannot be used in the same way as an Ipad!
