RP Proposal Draft

For my research paper I’m looking to jump into the conversation around the ethics of AI. That is, what should AI’s “job” regarding us be? What shouldn’t it be? Specifically I would say that the research question I want to answer is, is there a line for AI imitation of human feeling? if so, where is it? I think that this question has a wide implication. It ranges from asking whether we should let ChatGPT use emojis, to asking whether it’s okay for us to develop relationships with chatbots.

This is a pretty philosophical question. Luckily though, as a philosophy major, it’s in my wheelhouse. I’m hoping to find some sources perhaps in recent philosophy journals as the question about AI is a relatively new one. However, I’m lucky to have one source already, Joseph Weizenbaum’s “Computer power and Human Reason” which was provided for us in the files of our canvas page. I’m actually not predicting to much difficulty about the availability of sources, humans have always been asking about what’s right and wrong for us. I actually think I could use Plato’s Republic and the subsequent Allegory of The Cave but I am wondering about how much time it will take to actually find those sources (other than Plato of course).
