TGG Play list

This playlist has a song to represent each chapter of The Great Gatsby, as what it means to me and the emotions it gives me can best be symbolized with related songs.

The song the most came to mind when reading chapter one was Bitter Sweet Symphony by the Verve, as the song relates to the theme of looks vs. reality and how the beauty of West Egg is just a cover for how fake all the rich people truly are.

For chapter 2, I picked Creep by Radiohead, it relates to the discomfort and dissatisfaction of how the charters ether feel out of place or are acting in ways just for others and not how they truly are.

Song 3 is Blinding Lights by the weekend, as this is when the partying starts to pick up and Gatsby is introduced, and how, in a party of people, most of them feel alone.

Song 4 Somebody That I Used To Know, It fits so well with Gatsby’s unresolved love for Daisy and how she is now married to Tom B.

Song 5 Rewrite The Stars from The Greatest Showman, Gatsby’s faith that he can relive his past and be with Daisy.

Song 6 Crashing Cars by Snow Patrol, relates to the simplicity of Gatsby’s plan to get Daisy back by using his party’s contrasted by the complexity of their lives.

Song 7 Set Fire To The Rain by Adele, as it shows the explosive emotions and betrayals that occur at the Plaza Hotel.

Song 8 The Scientist, refers to Gatsby’s desire to live in a world or a time where he is with Daisy.

Song 9 No Surprises by Raidohead, this song reflects the dissociation of Nick in the context of Gatsby’s death and how numb Nick and the rest of the cast feel.
