The Jewel

A Modular Lounge Chair.

During the Spring semester of Senior year, I had the opportunity to design and create an item of furniture. This concept became “The Jewel”, a modular collection meant for comfort, function, and creativity.

I am honored to have received the runner up scholarship for the marketing and execution of this piece out of 17 participants. See more about this collection below!

Hi, I’m Ellie!

Hello, I’m Ellie Hughes, an interior design student at the University of Oklahoma at the Christopher C. Gibbs School of Architecture. As an IIDA, IDSA, and OIDC member, I have been heavily involved in participating in local design opportunities. Whether its recycling materials or helping pass an Oklahoma Interior Design Practice Act, I am always finding new opportunities to grow my knowledge and support the role of interior designers.

Throughout my time, I have developed a strong passion for curating unique concepts, bringing a solid foundation of design principles. My designs revolve around the belief that well-designed spaces can significantly enhance the quality of life, reflecting the unique personality and needs for each project.

Throughout my education, I’ve had the privilege to absorb information through a diverse range of projects, from residential interiors to commercial spaces. My skill set encompasses not only a proficiency in design software and spatial planning but also a deep understanding of the latest trends and a commitment to sustainable design practices.

More about me

As a student at the University of Oklahoma, I have been able to build many connections with my heavy involvement and leadership. I have served as a CAC Scandals director for two years and am a CAC University Sing Head Director fall 2024. These are student led theatrical productions that have allowed me to bring my love for the musical arts into my time spent at college. I also serve as the head chair of the Delta Gamma House Renovation Commitee as well as Head of Recruitment Decorations. Both have allowed me to acquire real life design skills, while also supporting an organization I am deeply passionate about. My love for philanthropy does not stop within my Greek organization. While working at my local coffee shop, Dutch Bros, I have served many volunteer and fundraising opportunities within my local community such as raising money for The Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma, Youth Villages, and the Muscular Dystrophy Association. I also often find opportunities to shadow and make connections with design professionals in both the Dallas and Oklahoma area to gain more insight and experience from seasoned designers. While I am not making coffee or at the Delta Gamma house, I like to spend my free time playing with my mini weenie dog, Phineas, thrifting, or keeping up on the latest fashion trends.
