Evan’s Insight: OU vs Baylor weekend (11/14/21)

Over this weekend, I got to travel with my dad and one of his close friends up to Waco, Texas to watch the highly anticipated matchup between two big 12 heavyweights, Oklahoma and Baylor. In this post, I’ll show some of the photos I took throughout the weekend, and recap the events that took place during one of the most exiting weekends of my year so far.

We started the 3 hour drive up to Baylor, early in the morning at about 7 AM. We stopped for Bucee’s shortly after this because we were all hungry and grumpy in needing of beaver nuggets and coffee.
One of the highlights of our trip was getting to drive through the beautiful Texas countryside on the way up to Baylor, where the rolling hills and cattle were as the rising sun overtook the horizon.
The journey is over. We finally arrived up in Waco, and not to our surprise, it was flooded with the green and yellow colors worn by Baylor fans wherever we walked. There were also some OU fans aswell, but we were overtook by the Baylor alumni at the end of the day. Game time was in an hour, so we had some time to stop at my brother’s tailgate.
At my brother’s tailgate, we chatted it up and caught up with how our years had been going while enjoying a few beverages. Some trash talk ensued, but it was all in good fun, and the anticipation of the upcoming game was in the crisp November afternoon air.
We finally make it in the stadium! Even as the stadium fills up, there is so much nose and excitement that proved to be infectious, as most people in the stadium were standing up early. Before the game, a traditional pregame show with the band takes place, as the players prepare to take the field.
It’s halftime. We are through one close half of football with the scored tied up at 7 a piece. With both defense holding sir with not much to show from either offenses, it was looking like it was going to be a very close game from there on that.
Unfortunately, that was not the case. OU would put in Rattler for a struggling Williams, but it didn’t make much of a difference. The Baylor defense completely stifled the Sooner’s offense, and would go on to put up 2 TD’s in the last two quarters, sealing the deal and beating us in a final score of 27-14. While the result wasn’t what I was hoping for coming into the game, it was still a fun experience. I got to watch the Baylor students rush the field, with my brother among the few thousand doing so.
As the game ended and the night went on, we went back to our hotel and slept all of the depression off. Next morning, we got back in the car and on the road again, and got to drive through some of Waco, including this cool bridge.
As we drove on back to Houston, I got to see the same beautiful sunrise over the Texas horizon, even if it was after an OU loss. I made sure to give McLane Stadium a proper sendoff with a certain gesture that displayed my distaste for Baylor, but enough about that. It was time to head home and wrap things up.
As I returned to Houston, we drove to the airport where I caught my flight home, signaling the end of my weekend affairs. As we lifted off, I took a picture of the runway lights that reminded me of Christmas lights, which only helped to remind me of what was and is to come in these following weeks: More adventures to be had and more memories to be made.

I hoped you all liked my story for this weekend. Until next time, take care and have a wonderful week at campus!
