Final Research Proposal

Final Research Question

In this research paper, I want to have a firm evaluation of the most mediated generation, gen z. I want to question how Gen Z’s social media and technological habits could affect Gen z’s mental health, how they are in the workplace, and how it has benefited the economy. When it comes to the mental health aspect, there has always been a lot of speculation about how social media has a bad effect on teens and how it lowers their mental health. Putting this speculation aside, I intend to research the specific effects on teens’ mental health and their feelings of validation and self worth. I also want to look into how Gen Z might be different in the workplace after growing up in a completely digital era where the world revolves around technology. How might this be detrimental? How might this be useful and helpful? Similarly, there are ways that social media has been useful to the economy. Specifically in the world of marketing and advertising. Larger audiences can be reached and on a more specific level. Technology and social media and its benefits and faults in the aspects of health, the workplace, and the economy all sound like a topic that I am willing to deeply analyze and evaluate.

What I have so far

For the mental health aspect, I found an EBSCO source that brings up the key term of ontological security which is the feeling of security in yourself and in your own life. This key term may be useful when it comes to seeing whether or not social media use has an affect with ones oncological security. This could give me a good base and I could then expand on more specific issues like body image, validation, and anxiety. The second topic I need to find more research for but I want to research how being a mediated generation can affect workplace habits in both negative and positive ways. I feel like this could go both ways. The last subtopic I want to talk about is the new marketing and advertisement industry and how its recent changes and developments directly correlate with social media. Another EBSCO source that I found talks about the experience two young nurses had with social engagements in younger generations and being able to market on a whole new level. I also want to find a visual analysis of the success of companies who market via social media have seen new forms of success. With the findings I have so far on mental health affects and advertisement and their correlation to social media I can put together a good evaluation of how gen z being the most mediated generation has both positive and negative affects in a lot of different aspects.
