As we look towards the middle of the semester, Spring Break, we must always remember to keep up to date with the best information that helps us stay healthy, happy, and successful. Here at Sarkey’s Fitness Center, we’ll be open all break long, except for March 12th. Check our hours here:

However, if you’re going out of town for the break or don’t find the need for the gym, here are some of the best ways to keep healthy.

  • Take A Break – Either just having taken midterms or having to prepare for them, it’s important to remember that you’re a person first. Take this time to relax, connect with friends or family, and take on some new hobbies. Enjoy yourself and enjoy life.
  • Stay Active – Throughout the break, make sure you’re getting enough physical activity to keep you and your mind moving. The CDC states that you should “get at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity every week.” This means that you could simply take a jog around the neighborhood for 30 minutes, every day.
  • Stay Hydrated – Even if the activities you plan do not require much physical effort, make sure you’re drinking enough water throughout the break. It’s important to give your body the correct amount of hydration so you can feel as energized as possible.
  • Buddy System – If you plan on going out this spring break, make sure you always bring someone else with you and never leave them behind. If you can’t find someone to bring with you, update your friends and family on your location and always keep your location on and your phone charged. In addition, take care of yourself and your friends! If you or they have had too much to drink, take the time to regroup and reset.
  • Take Care of Your Mind – Anxiety and depression can be dangerous states of mind. Being away from campus and having to get out of the rhythm of the year can be quite difficult and can cause a lot of unwanted emotions. If you ever start to feel this way, remember that there will always be someone to talk to. On campus, we have the University Counseling Center ((405) 325-2911 or https://www.ou.edu/ucc/contact), where you can always find an appointment and get the help you need. You can also reach out to a friend or family member, sometimes, talking is all it takes!

Spring Break can be an amazing time for college students. Make memories and enjoy your life! However, remember to stay healthy throughout the break. Be prepared for the latter half of the semester and focus on the positives of the year. Summer is almost here! Have a great Spring Break, Oklahoma! Boomer!
