The project we’ll be working on over the next few weeks, nicknamed “SWATwood” [Now Speculum], will be a hardcore top-down 2D tactical stealth action game with horror and thriller elements. The game will feature tense corner-clearing with the help of various information-gathering tools similar to SWAT 4 with the “fog of war” mechanics (as well as the accompanying gritty pixel art style) from Darkwood. The game will also incentivize stealth and playing around with threats and the environment rather than directly engaging with threats, similar to Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory. – Cameron C.

Since the project’s inception, “SWATwood [Speculum]” has slowly been evolving. Currently, the project features a handful of both gameplay and visual mechanics, including an equipment swap system, AI state machine, player movement system, fog/vision effects, and many more! We plan to have the first weapon (a PDW Handgun) and enemy (nicknamed the “Pack Creature”) within the game in the coming weeks. We also hope to create an audio management system if time permits. This will allow us to begin testing the project to assess what a final product might look like.
