Daisy as a character in The Great Gatsby is a tragic figure to look at. For example, she is in a loveless relationship with a cheating husband, Tom. It seems as if the only thing that really gives her joy is her own baby and her cousin Nick. I think that Daisy in an essence likes genuine connection with others that really enjoy her presence instead of surface level interaction like what she has with her husband. You can tell in the book that she can’t stand being with Tom, but by the end of the book she tragically stays with her cheating husband after his mistress is killed by a car driven by her long-lost love Gatsby.

I think a good comparison for Daisy in the modern day social world would be Khloe Kardashian for a few different reasons. The first example would be her obsession with all things prestigious and high-class, basically anything that has to do with money. Khloe and Daisy both have a high ranking in the social hierarchy and are known by many for just being rich and living a lavish lifestyle. Another thing that connects the fictional Daisy with the real-world Khloe is their taste in bad men. This can be exemplified by Daisy knowingly staying with her unfaithful husband because of the money that is attached with him. She would rather stay in this toxic relationship than let go and move on to somebody that may be better for her. The same goes for Khloe Kardashian, she has been staying somewhat faithful to the cheating Tristan Thompson. They could also remain somewhat faithful to their toxic relationships because of the children that are involved as well in both cases. Maybe Daisy is looking to put up with Tom’s cheating all for the sake of making it work for their child.
