The film industry plays a huge role in society today and is a main source of entertainment for people from all over the world. Throughout my life I have grown up watching films of many genres: Rom Com, Action, Drama, Horror, etc. But what makes a film a quality piece of entertainment?

A film that I would argue is a quality film is the recent movie, Barbie. Starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, the movie takes you on an adventure through Barbie’s life and is not only fun and lighthearted, it also supports women empowerment through many ways.

Barbie Movie

The advertisement for this movie really stood out to me and I think is what made this such a quality film. Thousands of companies promoted the Barbie movie through their products being pink or Barbie themed in some way. The trailer and the marketing for the movie alone persuaded people to buy a ticket and invest in the movie.

Not only did Barbie have fantastic advertising, the costumes, set design, and actors/actresses were outstanding. It is obvious that this was not a cheap movie to produce, but the investments were worth it. According to an NPR article, “Barbie brought close to $1.3 billion at the worldwide box office” (NPR). I believe Barbie has been one of the most successful quality films created.

Besides the advertising, artists, set design, and costumes, I believe a quality film can be determined by cinematography, direction and editing. The movie The Greatest Showman is another production I would consider as a quality film.

The Greatest Showman overall is an amazing film with incredible special effects, and behind the scenes detail that bring the story to life. The story is also very entertaining and captivating.

To me, a quality film contains many elements (as discussed throughout this blog) that are pieced together to create an entertaining and inspiring production.
