Your Media Diet: The forms of multimedia content that I consume the most are short videos and “reels” on social media. A vast majority of the short videos that I consume are through Youtube, along with the reels which I consume through both Youtube and Instagram. I also occasionally watch livestreams on Youtube as well as Twitch. I think the reason I use those specific platforms so frequently is because I’ve been using them since I first got into social media. Social media is the easiest form of media to consume now because it’s always in your hand, so having watched Youtube and been on Instagram since the early 2010s, it’s become a part of my daily life now.

Platform Habits: I think most of the content that I see and engage with naturally appears for me through the algorithms that these media platforms have developed in today’s age. A lot of what pops up are things that interest me based on what I previously searched for or frequently watch. There are definitely times where I search for content that I want to see outside of my algorithm, but for the most part these platforms do a good job at getting my interest.

Credibility & Curation: As far as mainstream media, I think it’s difficult to know exactly who to trust nowadays. Most of the time I find myself absorbing a lot of the “facts” from different sources, and putting them aside until a definitive truth comes out. I think authenticity is proven through the truth and when it turns out that a source is right even after the truth is revealed, that gives them credibility.

Your Role as a Creator: If I had to produce multimedia content on a topic I cared deeply about, I would go about it in one of two ways. The first route I would consider is a Youtube series that centers around shorter-length videos that build off of one-another. I think that approach would work well because people are drawn to series, always wanting to know what happens next. The other option would be similar, but instead of a video series on Youtube, it would be a series made with reels on a platform such as Instagram or TikTok. I think both would grab the attention of viewers who enjoy series’ and want to know what happens in the end.
