If Gatsby threw a full tilt, all-out Halloween party in this day and age, his guests would need the best costumes. Highlighting the main characters, these are the costumes that I think each character would wear.
Jay Gatsby:
Jay Gatsby would attend his own party as a boxer. He would wear a pre-match robe, open with no shirt on underneath, with shiny gold shorts. He’d include the boxing mitts and the champion belt. The robe would be imported from a foreign country while the mitts come from his in-house gym where he practices his daily kick boxing with his private trainer. Gatsby would tap into his “Rocky” persona while walking around, bouncing from guest to guest, enjoying the elusiveness that he delivers while he goes unidentified.
Daisy Buchannan:
Daisy would attend the party as a disco girl. She would thrive through the night in an elegant pink and orange swirl patterned dress, with the matching headband wrapped around her blonde bob. She would wear the white go-go boots and the outfit would highlight her smile. Daisy would love to have fun at the party. So, such a costume compliments her personality as she can be a free-spirited girl who wants to live life vivaciously.
Tom Buchannan:
Tom Buchannan would show up to the party wanting to sport his manly mojo by wearing a Top Gun costume. He would wear the army green jumpsuit while hiding behind his aviators. Top Gun would be a movie he enjoys. Therefore, he would enjoy going to the party advertising his confidence and authority. He would not break character at any point in the night while escorting his lady dressed as a disco girl. He would enjoy the simpleness of his costume while enjoying the respect it brings him from those around him.
Nick Caraway:
Nick Caraway would show up dressed as a pirate portraying a real life Jack Sparrow. He’d have the white linen shirt paired with a leather vest. His costume would include the billowy striped pants, leather boots, and a pirate hat to top it all off. Nick would enjoy the fun behind this costume as a pirate is something I imagine he would have dressed up as when he was a kid. He would approach all the guests with a strong, “Arrrgggg!” and immerse himself into the persona of his costume.
Jordan Baker:
Jordan would show up wearing the recently popular costume of Mia Thermopolis from The Princess Diaries. Her hair would be up in a perfectly slicked back bun while wearing a strapless, short white dress. She wouldn’t forget the black, over the head headphones. She’d pair the outfit with simple heels. Tiny black sunglasses and a crown are also both a must. As a step outside of her day job, she would enjoy dressing up along the more girly side of her personality, contrary to her typical sporty personality.
