RP Proposal Draft

I must start with the fact that I have this interest in quite random and niche thing: Ninilchik Russian and everything related to it, so here is how I came yo with the topic of my research.

I want to explore how artificial intelligence can be used to preserve, revitalize, and study endangered and endangered languages. Although there are about 7,000 languages in the world, UNESCO estimates that almost half of them are in danger of extinction this century. Traditional methods of language preservation rely heavily on field linguistics and documentation from local communities. I am particularly interested in studying case studies in languages spoken by very few people, such as Russian in Ninilchik, Alaska, to understand how artificial intelligence intervention can work in critical environmental scenarios.

I’m going to base my research on resources from Linguistics, Russian studies, and Digital Humanities. I’m going to use resources that are descriptive and specific to Ninilchik Russian to understand which of the existing algorithms for language recovery and learning using artificial intelligence and large language models. The main difficulty is the practical lack of resources that cover both the AI and Ninilchik Russian subtopics. In addition, access to first-hand reports from language communities working with these technologies may also be limited, potentially limiting my ability to assess real-world experiences of implementing artificial intelligence in the context of language preservation.
