Ah yes, Doppelgängers and Doubles even applies to the study of life– Biology! During my recent endeavors as a Biology Major, we covered the study of mitosis.. also known as the duplicating of cells. The thing I love about mitosis is that it is a process that represents growth and repair, while also having the doubling of the cell, creating for more life an growth. The division of repairing old wounds to make new ones for extended growth is an amazing process, but there is a division that mitosis can be a dangerous process, especially when the mechanisms within the cell cycle (before mitosis) can cause cancer onto the body, which can alter the personality and even the being of a person. This can lead to the “uncanny” in a way, altering the mind and becoming unfamiliar with your body, just like how in “The Sandman” the main character became unfamiliar with himself, thus finding disgust and displeasure in his being and fears.

Mitosis can relate to this, and if it weren’t for the sake of biology, Doppelgängers and Doubles would have never been a sort of thing. It is nice to go straight to the source to learn about how we react to different bodily changes, and it is fun to connect what we learned in different classes into one, catering my interests whole.
