When I was a sophomore in high school, I was choreographing a work on 3 of my peers for the student choreography unit in my dance company. I was fairly new to dance and had no idea on how to even start choreographing or how to create a concept. I began looking at videos online of every style of dance that exists to hopefully find some inspiration and came across this video. I watched this video hoping to gain choreographic inspiration but little did I know I would be gaining so much more. This very film was the project that made me realize what I wanted to for the rest of my life. As a dancer I appreciated the intense and passionate choreography and performance, but I knew that there was so much more to the video than just those artistic elements. The lighting, the cinematography, the costumes, everything about the film made me fall in love and I found myself watching it over and over again not knowing what made me fall in love so easily. From that day on I knew that as a dancer who was already into photography and journalism, I would combine the two passions to create an even bigger love in my life and that was dance films. As a double major in Modern Dance Performance, and Creative media Production Major, the number one question I get asked all the time is “what do you want to do with those degrees?” and my answer to them is always “My ambitious goal is dance films.” and I have this video to thank. Please enjoy this video that is very near and dear to my heart.
