Ballet Slippers

As a Modern Dance Performance major, I am required to take at least 4 semesters of Ballet Technique. On a normal week I take Ballet class Monday, Wednesday, and Friday which is why I never take my ballet slippers out of my backpack and it is one less thing for me to pack every morning before I leave for a long day.

Foam Roller

After dancing for long hours 6 days a week, it is very likely that I will be sore the next day. I almost always have my foam roller with me so that I can roll out my legs and back before or after a technique class.

Toe Spacers

This is a bit less common for dancers to carry around with them but my Modern Technique professor recommended to me. When I came to OU I had a lot less experience then everyone else which resulted in parts of my body not being shaped for dancing quite fully such as my feet. I struggled with my point and arch which is big in the dance world so my teacher recommended toe spacers to warm up and stretch my feet everyday and they have worked wonders and now I refuse to go anywhere without them. These have quickly become one of my warm up essentials.

Hydro flask

I feel like this is more of a college essential rather than a dancer’s essential. Cold, Purified water seems scarce in college and its hard to stay as hydrated as you would in the comfort of your own home with a filtered water dispenser. In order to stay hydrated I make sure to drink at least 4 hydros a day and fill it up with the purified water fountains in every building.

Hair Pins

As mentioned above, I take ballet class three times a week which means I am always prepared to pin my hair into a ballerina bun at any time. I keep a whole pack of hair pins with me at all times just in case.
