My Twin Sister & Me
The whole reason I took this class and made this the focus of my blog is because I am a twin. We are fraternal and I don’t think we look very alike, but a lot of people think we do at first at least. I will admit we do sound the exact same and have like the same interest but I feel nothing but gratitude for that because what is better than a built in best friend? She gets my exact humor, always knows what I’m up to and looks just like me– How lucky am I! Ever since we were little she has been my partner in crime. We took the same exact classes up until high school when I focused on agriculture and she focused on sports medicine. Taking all of those classes I think kept us close but we’ve always been close. In fact while writing this blog post she called me for no reason other than because she was bored and had something funny to say, like she usually does. I tell everyone this but she is the funniest person I know and her funny thing did in fact make me laugh like it always does. I feel like the luckiest person in the world to have her as my twin.

We are very competitive naturally, but we really never competed with each other as kids. We did try to separate ourselves by doing individual sports but that also didn’t stick until high school when I did cross country and track and she did basketball and softball. I think that is in part because our parents raised us not really as twins but as people born on the same day. We rarely if ever had matching anything and they tried to keep us separated in class except for when we moved from Florida to Texas at 7 years old, for a sense of comfort. Instead they gave us coordinating colors–pink for her and purple for me–and outfits. Having separate identities was always important to my parents and I would say they succeeded. Despite us having almost identical interests we grew into our own people and never were overly dependent on one another. Granted I always have found comfort in her, but we weren’ t the stereotypical secret language, only talk to each other twins.
Well, we’re not famous so can’t say we had any impact on societal views of media but, I think we fail to perpetuate typical twin stereotypes presented by the media. We have grown into our own people with our own interest, but she will always be my best friend who gets me to a level no one could ever compare to. She in a sense is what makes me who I am and I couldn’t be more grateful to be her twin (and I’d hope she say the same about me).
