One of the best boxers of my generation, Manny Pacquiao announced his retirement from the sport of boxing on Wednesday, September, 28th. He announced via Twitter as well as with a link to a tribute video showing his legacy. Pacquiao was born in the Philippines and still lives and currently serves as a senator as well. He also announced that he will be running for the Philippine presidency in 2022.
His overall record ended 62-8-2. He’s fought the best and has had a long and very respectable career. Pacquiao’s greatest achievement is the fact that he was the first boxer to win major world titles in four different weight divisions (flyweight, featherweight, lightweight, and welterweight). Throughout his career, he defeated 22 world champions. He also fought the greatest boxer of this generation Floyd Mayweather and lost by a unanimous decision. After losing the first bout against Timothy Bradley by split decision, he won the next two by unanimous decision. He defeated Oscar De La Hoya by an eighth-round TKO. Keith Thurman lost his first fight in his career to Pacquiao on a split decision as well. His last bout was on August 8th, 2021 when he lost to the Olympic bronze medalist of 2008 Yordenis Ugas by unanimous decision, and lost his WBA welterweight belt.
