The first USA skateboarding Olympic medalist Jagger Eaton competed in the Street League Tampa Pro 2021 the weekend of October 16-17. Australian Shane O’Neill won the event, but Jagger earned himself a wildcard spot to the championship with a third-place finish. This was a competition that Eaton had a previous victory in 2018.
Jagger was not the top American going into the 2020 Tokyo Olympics to reach the podium. Nyjah Huston is the highest-paid skateboarder in the world and was a heavy favorite. This is why at the Tokyo Games, it was a great surprise that he finished seventh. That opened it up for other competitors to medal, like Eaton securing the bronze. Nyjah did win the Tampa Pro twice in 2014 and 2020.
The next stop for wildcard Jagger Eaton is the second round of the 2021 SLS Championship Tour at Lake Havasu, AZ, during October 29-30. The Super Crown Championship round is the last stop in Jacksonville, Florida, during November 13-14. The level of competition will only be higher with the likes of Nyjah Huston and, of course, Yuto Horigome, the first gold medalist at the Olympics. Therefore his margin of error will need to be even lower as well as his level of difficulty on his tricks will also need to be on point.
