Jim Miller had an incredible knockout with a nicely timed counter-overhand left in his 38th professional fight on October 16th in the UFC! Miller is 38 years old and currently holds the record for most wins in the lightweight division of the UFC. With all these bouts and with a history of (33-16-0) 1 NC, Miller is considered a veteran in the game. At the same time, his opponent was no rookie. Even though it was his UFC debut Erick Gonzalez never actually had been standing finished before. He came in with a record (13-6) and was looking to use Miller as a “gateway fight” to more or less show what you can do to Jim Miller. For sure, if you can get through him, it will pad your resume because of his experience and just the amount of wins that any fight after would have to recognize that you defeated a legend of that caliber.
Unfortunately, the problem is if you want that opponent and you don’t really get an elusive win to put you into a more lucrative and more main event competition, then Gonzalez will need to work his way back up on a winning streak to build himself back up. Another issue could just be all with timing and opportunity. If it were flipped the outcome, I believe we could be talking about Miller probably heading toward retirement, and Gonzalez would be all about well who would match up next for a higher ranked contender.
