The Sooners defense looked unimpressive against a team it was supposed to build confidence against. Instead, they had an awful game for penalties, with the whole team accounting for ten that gave 65 yards. It should also be looked at that Kansas this season’s points scored have been awful. In their best game against Duke, they scored 33, but Oklahoma was their second-best point-scored game. The offense never really got into a rhythm and always looked uninspired until they needed to at the end, which in my opinion, will not cut it against better opposition. They would’ve scored more points earlier and wouldn’t just let the Sooners back into the game.
The Sooners went up to Lawrence, Kansas, to take on the Jayhawks on October 23rd. They were 38.5-point favorites going into the game to beat the 1-5 basketball school Kansas easily. Neither one played to their record; the Sooners were held scoreless in the first half. Besides the defense having their struggles with penalties and just not stopping Kansas’s offense, Caleb Williams did throw his first interception in the second quarter.
The Sooners were in a game throughout the whole day, and it was pretty gloomy until at least this vast 40 yard run by Caleb Williams on a 4th&3 at 7:53 in the fourth quarter to extend the lead to 28-17 at the time. Another major play by Williams came with 3:27 on the clock in the fourth quarter with the Sooners only having a slim 28-23 lead on the Jayhawks when on a 4th&1 he handed it off to running back Kennedy Brooks, who was getting pushed back to what looked like was going to be a stop for Kansas instead Williams took the ball back out of Brooks’s hands and ran for the first down!
