The Oklahoma Sooners football is without a coach!

On Sunday, November 28th, now former Oklahoma coach Lincoln Riley left to accept a head coach position at the University of Southern California. On Monday he was unveiled there with a press conference.

As of right now, Oklahoma hasn’t named an official new head coach. Instead of an interim role just for the still future bowl game for this season, Sooner legend Bob Stoops, someone who has led the Sooners for over 18 seasons as head coach.

In the wake of Riley leaving, probably the worst news with it is the de-commit of future Sooners. So far two five stars quarterback Malachi Nelson, and running back Raleek Brown both flipped their commitments from Oklahoma to now USC.

Lincoln Riley will not go down as a Sooner great in coaching, in my opinion. This was a pretty head-scratching move, as Oklahoma is supposed to be going to the SEC soon and it also seems convenient to leave right after not reaching his first Big 12 conference title game. It’s a soft move because he hurts the place he just worked at and leaves them kinda stuck in some mud with no coach and recruitment starting.

Anyway he leaves after five seasons, won four consecutive Big 12 Championship games, and led Oklahoma to three college football playoff appearances. Two Heisman winners of Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray were both under his tenure, making everyone think he is a great quarterback coach but with the quarterbacks, he has recruited they have shown nothing too special to make one question is he that even great of a coach or did Baker and Kyler just make him look good?
