Is Jake Paul a boxer?
Yes, I would say, he has a 4-0 record with 3 KO’s. Let’s see the strength of schedule, now personally he’s only 4-0 so any young boxer’s strength of schedule isn’t usually measured like this. His debut was against another YouTuber from Britain, AnEsonGib, this was a TKO win in the first round. You can’t really read into this too much as both of them were making their debuts and his opponent was a YouTuber like him.
In his second fight he raised the ante a little, but still fought a basketball player, and no offense to Nate Robinson because he can dunk but you can’t dunk in the ring, and height matters more when you’re 5’9” basketball player who didn’t know how to box, Jake, knocked him out in the first round.
In Paul’s third fight I would consider a real crossroads fight early because he goes against Ben Askren who isn’t known as a striker but probably considered an actual tough dude who’s been in fights, he’s more known for his wrestling in the MMA scene, he competed in the UFC but was champion in Bellator and ONE. Jake Paul sat him down with his first punch, he got wobbly and the referee TKOd Ben Askren in the first round to Jake Paul.
I think this was probably the legitimacy he kind of needed because Ben Askren was no slouch of a fighter even though he wasn’t known for his striking, people anticipated him probably being able to take Paul’s strikes and fire some back and see what Jake would do. Instead with his fame, mouth and, media coverage, and since he is performing against actual fighters he can call out and other fighters are interested. Even if fighting Jake Paul wouldn’t be for the belt for a lot of these professional fighters the biggest prize is the paycheck when you’re putting your body on the line hence Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather.
Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse in Cleveland Ohio hosted the Paul vs Woodley fight. Tyron Woodley, is an actual terrorizing figure alone compared to his other opponents, he is a former UFC welterweight champion. All those accolades alone and even though UFC is mixed martial arts he was known for his striking with seven KOs. Instead, Jake Paul goes on to win by split decision and in my eyes, Jake won. He just simply out-boxed him and was just busier with striking Woodley throughout getting him more points to win more rounds than Woodley. The only shaky moment was in the fourth round when a good right by Woodley knocks Paul into the ropes. He didn’t really capitalize in the round by actually scoring a knockdown or trying to finish the round while Paul was still dazed. Instead, when the fight was finished and Jake Paul won by a split decision in his hometown arena in Cleveland, OH, Woodley tried to say it wrong. You cannot say you won a fight on just one punch you have to capitalize or win on scoring throughout like Paul did by just being busier throughout the rounds.
All in all Tyron Woodley does not like the split decision and called for a rematch and it was shaken on in the ring that if Woodley got an “I love Jake Paul” tattoo he would give him the rematch. Paul now says that Tyron has taken too long for the tattoo and the rematch won’t happen, so we’re left with him possibly eyeing his next opponent, a real boxer, the 7-0 Tommy Fury, half-brother to heavyweight champion Boxer Tyson Fury.
