Karim Benzema so far has had probably one the most peculiar careers you can have as a footballer. He also as well, is at the topmost recently when he’s on the pitch and is one of the most detrimental strikers a defense has ever seen. He’s a French player and started his career at Lyon but plays his current club career at Real Madrid.
To praise Benzema’s current form and look towards his prospective future with the French national team, we must look at the skeletons in his closet. Allegedly he tried to blackmail one of his teammates Valbuena in a sex tape scandal. Ever since this he was arrested and accused he hasn’t put the France jersey on. Since then France won the World Cup in 2018, not only was he not able to be on the squad to win it for his team he wasn’t a sub or a reserve so he gets no recognition or accolades for that achievement. To rub more salt in the wound it showed the team was completely fine in their decision to drop him, and they took no loss they can say because they achieved a World Cup in 2018 which is the largest goal an international soccer federation can achieve.
This is about the great opportunity he took with a great club like Real Madrid, and the reviving of his career like starting this campaign off the 2021 season, within six games he has put up 8 goals and 7 assists. In my opinion, his whole career could be forgotten if he played for a smaller club. If he was just playing at Lyon he’s Benzema from Lyon, but he has the opportunity with the Real Madrid stature and pressure, which is the harder one because everyone has their eyes on you and the expectations are higher, and if he doesn’t score he just simply wouldn’t be playing, and the storyline would be it’s Benzema, the controversy for his national team that plays for this great club and he doesn’t even produce. Instead what he has done is used his platform to better his career in my opinion to where even if he doesn’t ever put the national team jersey on again, his name is not tarnished by that it’s instead outshined by his Real Madrid career. Who’s to say I’m not too sure especially since the court case has been ongoing for six years, or if France gives him a second chance he’s able to play again for them. I just don’t see that happening completely because even though as great as he is, France has so much depth of great superstars at the striking position like Antoine Griezmann (Atlético Madrid), Anthony Martial (Manchester United), and of course, the then 18-year-old, now 22, who won them the World Cup in 2018 with four goals Kylian Mbappé (Paris Saint-Germain). They can leave him off the roster and still like their chances that they are as good as they were in 2018, and probably still be winning they think, but he is a great striker and for sure I believe would be the starting number 9 easily right now. The next World Cup starts at the end of November 2022 in Qatar, so I guess we’ll just have to wait and see if anything gets resolved or will he just be a great club player?
