Overall, I’m not a big book reader. However, I do love to causally binge some movies and TV shows here and there. I started on the trend late, but there was a show on Amazon Prime that everyone was talking about last summer. It was the show ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’. Of course, I didn’t end up actually watching it until this summer when season 2 had come out, but I ended up loving it so much!
I’m not sure if anyone else does this but when I start a new obsession, also known as ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’, I start deeply researching it. Turns out, this fantastic show was based on a book with the same title, and there were 3 books in the series. The author of this book is Jenny Han. Han has broken out of the stereotypical role of an author and is also the “co-showrunner” on the series ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’.
Personally, what drags me into a movie or show is the love story. For example, my favorite movie is ‘Tangled’ which is about this girl who is trapped in a tower her whole life and somehow meets this guy and he helps her follow her dreams, with some twists in the story here and there, but then they basically fall in love and get married at the end. But it’s that tension and love story that pulls me in and keeps me there. And I never realized this until I was researching, but I’ve seen other things by Jenny Han. There’s this trilogy of movies on Netflix called ‘To the Boys I’ve Loved Before’. I just remember how when I first watched those movies, I would say those were my favorites for a long time because they have that same type of love story and tension.
Jenny Han is not only a fantastic author, but also “co-showrunner”. Han has made a production banner named after herself, called “Jenny Kissed Me“. Which is basically to further promote her shows and movies. Since her popular movies, ‘To the Boys I’ve Loved Before’ have grown so big, she has created a spin off series called ‘XOXO Kitty’, which is currently on Netflix. Without any doubt, this will not be the last we hear Jenny Han’s name.
