About Me
Hola
Hello! My name is Kevin Palomino, I am a senior at the University of Oklahoma pursuing a major in journalism with a minor in international studies. My focus is on bilingual storytelling, primarily through video formats. I am scheduled to graduate in 2024.
Growing up in Oklahoma City after migrating from Chihuahua, Mexico, I was given the honorary title as the metiche (nosy) of my Mexican family. No matter the topic, I was always asking questions, and I never took no for an answer unless I was given a valid reason. This foundational training developed into a passion for journalism and its search for the truth. My curious nature allows me to dig for answers until I find the information necessary to complete a story.
Work Experience
I am currently in Washington, D.C. covering politics through an Oklahoma angle for Gaylord News, a political wire for Oklahoma news outlets. This fall, I reported on the historic speakers race, where I spent hours on Capitol Hill chasing politicians and asking direct questions.
Previously, I reported for News 21 out of Phoenix, Arizona. This investigative national project looked into the scope of abortion throughout the United States in a post Roe era. I covered the lack of abortion services for undocumented people living along the Rio Grande Valley in Texas. My investigation uncovered the challenges Mexican activists operating an international abortion pill networks are facing as they attempt to deliver this medication to undocumented people in bordering states. My eight minute documentary won first place in the long documentary college entry division for the College Media Association Film and Audio Festival.
I worked as a multimedia journalist with Telemundo Oklahoma— the only Hispanic news station in the state— where I gained valuable reporting experience that keeps me motivated to become the next generation of Latino journalists representing a community in the media. With Telemundo I spoke with the Oklahoma governor about the Hispanic community’s impact on the state’s economy and culture, and I covered the stories of families affected by teenage gun violence. As the only reporter for the station, I was responsible for reporting on different beats like education, politics, community, crime, and health.
Because of my previous work experience, I am proficient in Edius and Adobe Premiere Pro with some experience in After Effects and Photoshop.
I am constantly looking for untold stories that deserve attention. If you have a story inquiry, email me at kevinpalominonews@gmail.com. I’d love to hear from you!
