Known for being the basis as a punchline for nerd culture, Dungeons and Dragons is one of the most popular role-playing games in the world. If you aren’t familiar with the term “role-playing” or just have never taken interest into nerd culture then let me introduce you. Role-playing is another term for acting, or perform the part of a person or character.
The game of D&D can become extremely in depth for more advanced players. The basis of the game is following a story line with a character that you create and play as the story progresses. This alternate fantasy character is created from the choices you make within the story. You could say a certain piece of dialogue or pick a path in a fork in the road. Players imagine journeying on a quest, and take actions to overcome the obstacles they face. But their journey isn’t linear, and can go in whatever direction they choose. You write the story, just as you choose how your character acts within it.

Your character’s class is aligned to their role in the world. It influences their available skills and abilities. You might choose to be a Wizard who studies arcane scripts to cast powerful spells, or prefer to be a sneaky Rogue. It is all up to you as the player modifying your alternate self.
In all honesty I have never played D&D myself and have seen the role-playing game as nerdy. But I do play video games and thought how could it be any different, so I researched and found the game to be quite interesting altogether.
