In November this year, I was able to attend the 2022 Arkansas Collegiate Model United Nations Conference. With my partner I represented Germany in the Human Rights Council discussing LGBTQ+ rights, and the rights of the child. Since it was only a one-day conference, our focus was spent on the topic of the rights of the child. It was interesting hearing what other countries hoped to accomplish for children and what different problems they faced. Some topics delegations chose to focus on included rights for immigrant children, Â education, especially for those forced into militaries at a young age, and sex trafficking and its prevention. The delegation of Germany, with the help of the delegation of Ukraine, focused on providing necessary resources such as medical attention, shelter, food, and education to forcibly displaced children. In this simulation, it was upsetting to think about the real children in this countries facing these problems.
After the different councils dispersed, they joined together to solve a crisis simulation in which important world figures has been kidnapped by an anonymous organization that demanded the immediate end to the genocide of Uighur Muslims by China, and of Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar. I knew about the despicable actions taking place in China, but I was unaware of it happening in Myanmar as well. I hope to look into both of these and learn more.

Overall, I am incredibly happy I went to this event as I was able to pass my draft resolution, learn about more world issues, and meet many wonderful people from nearby universities! It was a wonderful time.
