Perhaps one of the most shocking players so far in the season as of November 27, 2020, is Oklahoma City’s own Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was born on July 12, 1998 in Toronto, Canada. His mother, Charmaine Gilgeous, was a former track star who competed for both Antigua and Barbuda in the 1992 Summer Olympics. He also has a cousin in Nickeil Walker-Alexander who is also in the NBA currently plays for the Utah Jazz.

Shai is currently averaging over 30 points a game on 61% true shooting and should also be noted he is putting up 6.2 assists, 4.8 rebounds, 1.7 steals, and 1.3 blocks a game.

His best game of the season was on November 16, 2022 where he posted a ridiculous 42 points, 7 assists, 6 rebounds and even the game winning shot. The game took media by storm as multiple news outlets began to debate where Shai belonged in the NBA hierarchy.

While Shai is having a great season that is putting him into not just All-Star conversations, but also possibly All-NBA consideration. The one thing that may hinder his season is the team that he has around him.

The Thunder currently have a 8-12 record that places them just outside the play-in tournament at the 12 seed in the Western Conference. His second best player is a toss between an undrafted player (Luguentz Dort) and a player who’s weakness when drafted was the game of basketball himself (Josh Giddey)

The Thunder may need to look at finding Shai a co-star or they may just waste another season that could ultimately result in him requesting a trade.
